creating opportunities.

1 Source Health & Wellbeing Inc is a Tasmanian registered charity bringing together counselling and wellbeing, disability inclusion, community participation and nature-based programs that create meaningful opportunities for people and our wider community.

From connecting Tasmanians with counselling and wellbeing professionals, to creating practical skills and employment pathways for people with disability, and developing new community and nature-based initiatives, our focus is on turning support into meaningful action.

One Source.

Many Ways to Support Our Community.

We believe wellbeing is about more than one service, one appointment or one approach.

People thrive when they feel supported, connected, included and able to contribute.

That's why 1 Source brings together professional wellbeing connections with practical community programs designed to create opportunities, build confidence and strengthen connection.

Our work is continuing to grow, but our purpose remains simple:

To help create stronger people, stronger connections and stronger communities.

OUR THREE KEY AREAS

COUNSELLING TASMANIA

Connecting people with professional support.

Counselling Tasmania brings together counsellors and wellbeing professionals from across Tasmania, helping people discover practitioners who may suit their individual needs.

It also provides professionals with an opportunity to become part of a wider Tasmanian network, build their professional presence and contribute educational information and resources to the community.

GROWING HEARTS DISABILITY TASMANIA

Grow • Learn • Belong • Work

Growing Hearts is our inclusive horticulture and skills program being established at Mt Rumney.

The first stage will create an accessible fruit and vegetable garden where people with disability can participate in meaningful outdoor activities, develop practical skills, build confidence and experience working together as part of a team.

Our longer-term goal is to create pathways towards work experience and, where sustainable, paid employment opportunities for people with disability.

WILDLIFE RESCUE & REHABILITATION

Rescue • Rehabilitate • Release

At Mt Rumney, we are also establishing a small wildlife rescue and rehabilitation initiative to support injured and orphaned Tasmanian native wildlife.

Our initial centre is intentionally being developed on a small scale, allowing us to focus on individual care, appropriate rehabilitation and, wherever possible, returning animals to the wild.

The program is being developed in accordance with the appropriate wildlife rehabilitation requirements and authorisations.

THE MT RUMNEY PROJECT

Where People, Purpose & Nature Come Together

Some of our newest programs are being established in a unique natural environment at Mt Rumney, Tasmania.

Set within approximately 150 acres of private bushland and open space, the property provides an opportunity to develop carefully planned community and nature-based programs in a peaceful environment close to Hobart.

Our first projects include an accessible horticulture program for people with disability and a small wildlife rescue and rehabilitation initiative.

While each program has its own purpose, together they reflect something important to us:

Creating environments where people can participate, contribute, learn and grow — while respecting and caring for the natural world around us.

Growing More Than Vegetables.

Growing Hearts Disability Tasmania is being designed around one simple idea:

Focus on what people can do.

Our first accessible garden will include raised garden beds, fruit trees, vegetables, accessible pathways, irrigation and suitable gardening equipment.

Participants will be able to become involved according to their individual interests, capabilities and support needs.

Learn new skills.

Work alongside others.

And experience the satisfaction of contributing to something real.

As Growing Hearts develops, we want those experiences to become stepping stones towards greater confidence, skills, work experience and employment opportunities.

Helping Animals Heal, Thrive & Return Where They Belong

DISCOVER OUR WILDLIFE & ANIMAL CARE PROJECT

An orphaned joey or injured native animal can require warmth, specialist feeding, clean bedding, monitoring, veterinary attention and significant rehabilitation before it is ready to return to the wild.

Our Mt Rumney initiative is being established to provide a safe and caring environment for a small number of animals at a time, with a focus on native wildlife rescue and rehabilitation as well as the care and welfare of agricultural and farm animals.

For native wildlife, our planned initial rehabilitation capacity is approximately 5–6 animals at any one time.

Starting small is intentional.

We want our focus to be on the quality of care we can responsibly provide to each animal, whether that means helping an orphaned joey grow strong enough for release, supporting an injured native animal through rehabilitation, or providing appropriate care and a safe environment for agricultural animals in need.

Our native wildlife rehabilitation activities will operate in accordance with the appropriate Tasmanian wildlife requirements and authorisations.

Where wildlife rehabilitation is successful and release is appropriate, the goal is simple:

Back to the wild.

For the agricultural side, our goal is equally important:

A safe place to be cared for and thrive.

I particularly like changing the button from “DISCOVER THE WILDLIFE PROJECT” to “DISCOVER OUR WILDLIFE & ANIMAL CARE PROJECT”. That way the website isn't presenting the agricultural animals as an afterthought.
